Medieval Shrine Madonna meets 17th century anatomical woodcut from an Italian manual on pregnancy and childbirth. ‘Worlds Within’ by Elina Gertsman explores secrecy, containment and unveiling in a way I felt was reflected by the gentle, lyrical beauty of the medical illustration. I was also considering the institutional and clandestine matters of faith in the 1600s when making my portable shrines. Ex-voto offerings, when I started encasing #goldstone and making elaborate #glass buttons as tokens. Find two examples of my #portableshrines one dedicated to birth (pictured) with @beingwoman2025 until 4th May and another with me at The Quay Gallery from May 1st - May 7th, find me with my work at Snape Maltings.
